Our Mission

It is the mission of Rural Community Transportation, Inc. ("RCT") to encourage the use, development and support of public transportation through the provision of coordinated, consolidated, non-duplicative transportation services: and to promote the planning and development of public transportation for the Northeast Kingdom including the counties of Caledonia, Essex, Lamoille and Orleans.

Company Profile

Rural Community Transportation, Inc. (RCT) is a private, non-profit organization, incorporated in November 1991. Previously known as NECKA transportation, RCT was created through a grant from the Federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA ), to coordinate Medicaid transportation services.  Later, services were expanded to serve the entire Northeast Kingdom.  This program served as a model for the later development of a statewide Medicaid brokerage network.

RCT is a transportation brokerage, that uses all modes of transportation including  cars, taxis, van , volunteer drivers, andvan pools .  We service a wide range of passengers through several programs as well as providing rides to the general public. As the Medicaid/Reachup broker for Caledonia, Orleans, Essex, and Lamoille counties, RCT coordinates medical trips for Medicaid eligible residents.

We provide transportation services for the Area Agency on Aging, Adult Day Services, Northeast Kingdom Human Services, Central VT Council on Aging, Out and About, and the Northeast Kingdom Community Action .  The moving force of RCT is its ’ volunteer driver network.  As it has in the past, the demand for services continues to increase the volunteer driver network, allowing RCT  to bring people in from the outlying areas to the more heavily populated service centers.  For more information on volunteer driving, please see Volunteer Drivers.

RCT’s service area includes Essex, Caledonia, Orleans and, Lamoille counties of Vermont. RCT’s main office is in St.Johnsbury, with branch offices in Newport and Morrisville.  Through all of our programs RCT schedules over 200,000 rides a year.
