In 2006 twelve schools and two Home Scholars participated in RCT's POOL TO SCHOOL Program. This poster contest is for area 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. After being presented with information about the importance of carpooling and public transportation, the students are asked to draw posters interpreting their understanding of what they learned and how it applies to them. Each school then chose a school winner and posters were submitted to RCT. At the RCT office posters were then chosen for county winners. Each County winner got to go to Montpelier in a County Sheriff's Car. At the Statehouse the students, teachers and fellow classmates had lunch in the Statehouse Cafateria; went on a statehouse tour; participated in workshops in the Well of the Statehouse where Lt. Governor Brian Dubie and Representative Janice Peaslee spoke with them. The County Winners, surrounded by friends and family received Certificates from Governor Jim Douglas. Governor Douglas spent a few minutes with each winner individually, stressing the importance of carpooling and public transportation as he handed them their awards.
