Art on the Go!

Vermont Arts Council Grant Transforms RCT’s Electric Vans into Rolling Masterpieces

Rural Community Transportation (RCT) and Catamount Arts with funding from the Vermont Arts Council are thrilled to announce a vibrant new collaboration that’s putting art on the move—literally! In a unique fusion of creativity and community service, local artists have been commissioned to design custom wraps for RCT’s new electric vans, transforming public transportation into a canvas for artistic expression.

Through this exciting project, RCT’s eco-friendly electric vehicles are now showcasing original artwork created by Kimberlee Forney, Craig Harrison, and Stephen Kenary.  These regional artists were selected by a committee of community members based on proposed concepts. The result? A colorful fleet of mobile murals traveling the roads of Northern Vermont and beyond, sparking joy and inspiration in the communities they serve.

As for RCT as an organization,  we’re so excited to bring art and transportation together in such a visible and meaningful way. Our buses are already essential lifelines for so many people—now they’re also delivering beauty, creativity, and a strong sense of local pride.

Each van wrap is more than just eye-catching—it tells a story. The vehicles feature vibrant landscapes and whimsical wildlife, capturing the essence of what makes Vermont unique. The project is part of RCT’s Buses for Better initiative, aimed at enhancing the public transportation experience, supporting local talent, and raising awareness about the organization’s mission of connecting people and communities, one ride at a time.

Catamount Arts, a leader in fostering creative engagement across the Northeast Kingdom, curated the artist selection and design process. “This collaboration perfectly embodies our mission—to bring the arts to life in everyday spaces,” said Andrea Otto, Catamount Arts Community Liaison “These buses will turn heads, start conversations, and serve as powerful reminders of the creativity that runs deep in our region.”

RCT and Catamount Arts will be celebrating the launch of the newly wrapped vans at St. Johnsbury’s Final Friday Street Fair on June 27th.

Until then, keep your eyes on the road—you just might spot a masterpiece driving by.
