Electric Buses

Rural Community Transportation, Inc., RCT, receives federal funds to purchase two new electric buses.

RCT is committed to green energy, to reducing emissions, and to progressing the future of public transportation. As part of this effort, RCT applied for and will be receiving funds from the Agency of Transportation to purchase the electric buses.

Transportation Secretary Joe Flynn is excited about and in full support of this initiative: “We can achieve significant greenhouse gas reductions by replacing older diesel buses with electric models and this latest investment will further contribute to these reductions. We are grateful for our local partners’ collaboration in bringing this technology to their communities.”

Rural Community Transportation, the public transit provider for the Essex, Orleans, Caledonia and Lamoille counties will receive enough funds to purchase two electric buses, as will Green Mountain Express in Bennington. Reducing emissions and greenhouse gases by transitioning to electric will make a significant impact in the Northeast Kingdom, while setting the example of environmental stewardship.

RCT provides public transportation bus services, as well as Dial-A-Ride services such as Medicaid non-emergency medical transportation, Rides to Recovery & Job Access, and Rides to Wellness. RCT is committed to reducing fuel emissions while also providing reliable transportation options to our community.
